Day 44

Hello all!

Okay so once again I didn't update this as much as I wanted to but on the plus side at least I can write more! hehe

So I think I might have to make a new category soon as the crash was a while ago now. To be honest though I still do have aches and pains from it. My back is begining to be able to tell the weather woohoo! Tomorrow will be cold with the chance of rain around mid-morning! lol. I say it can tell the weather it only starts aching in the cold now. I found out though as well that although my muscles don't hurt really now it is only because they are repairing and not that they are fully repaired. I went to CenterParcs the other week with Katie as she had a free day pass there. We went swimming, went down the rapids, had a walk, played golf on the driving range and basically had a really good day out. Unfortunately the next day my back hurt and my shoulder and chest hurt basically all the muscle injuries I had sustained in the crash. They hurt all that week as well which just meant that I didn't really want to go to work. Still they don't ache anymore and I keep wanting to go swimming again...isn't it funny how the human mind instantly is able to forget pain and makes you want to do what hurt you again! lol

Work has been going really well at the moment, it has been a bit boring sometimes but most of the time I have had stuff to do. I got to help rekit an engine the other day which was really great fun although it didn't take that long to do. It was a bit like doing a 3D jigsaw puzzle! Great fun really although it didn't take too long to do . I have been painting the floor recently, the safety inspector came round a few weeks ago now and has said that they need clear walkways between the lifts and that the danger areas need marking up, so that is what I am doing at the moment. Not the most stimulating of tasks but hey the jobs pulling in money and that's what matters really.

Everyone here has been ill recently including me, been sicking up everywhere. Katie got it the day we were going to be going to Skeg. She was really looking forward to going as well as I think it would have been our only holiday this year. I got it the day after here and neither of us have really eaten properly since. I just don't really feel hungry though most of the time although I am eating.

Well that will have to do for the moment. I am going to drive up to Katie to see her at work, I'd walk but it's cold and it's raining and I don't want to get ill again so soon after I am just recovering from this.

Take it easy!

Day 16

Okay so maybe I didn't update the blog again at the weekend bu hey this is my first entry now for May!

Work has been going well, I did think that I might run out of things to do towards the end of last week and on Monday I didn't really have that much to do, but on tuesday I was told that the entire workshop and bays needed to be repainted and guess who got the job of painter! Woohoo!. So the past two days I have been painting the large MOT bay and so far I have only got along half the first wall! lol Still at least this means I still have something to do when I don't have smoke tests etc to do. So yeah work is going well at the moment, I've been driving lots of great cars and campers and learning how to use air brakes. I have been told that they thought I had done some work at a mechanics before as I seemed to be able to work well on the cars. I think it helped that earlier when a guy came in with a Clio asking about the service light on the dash I was the only person able to tell him what it meant. All the others where saying that it probably meant that it needed to be serviced although they were not sure as they knew that some renaults had spanners coming up when it needed to be serviced. As I have a renault I was able to tell him what it meant, that basically it meant it needed to be checked out as it had a problem of some sort. Although I was also able to add that like most renaults clios had electrical problems and so simply turning it off could be enough to sort whatever error it had come up with. I will have to see what they are going to do with me at the end of the week, whether they are going to offer to train me up or not.

Mitchells and Butlers have been mucking me about a bit. I got a call of the woman who organises the graduate programme saying that I needed to let her know which brand I was interested in (I have already let them know a number of times) and she also said that I needed to redo the numerical test! Why I don't know, I left her a message the other day saying that she could phone me between 13:00 and 13:30 as I would be on lunch then and more likely to hear my phone or to email me but she did not contact me today so if she doesn't by tomorrow I will have to contact her again.

My neck has still been giving me grief and I have still been getting cramps in it during the day (part of the muscle damage) if it continues I will have to book another appointment at the doctors. For some reason my back has started hurting again when I'm at work, I wonder if it's because I'm stood up all day. It still hurts when I sit up which sucks although it's hurting my chest more sitting up at the moment, turns out you must use your chest muscles when sitting up! My hand has come on loads and is really improving. Most of the scabbing has gone now and the last part (the very centre on my wrist) has scabbed over at last. It still looks quite red but then it will do for a while I think. The injury people contacted me the other day and I told them my list of injuries. I'm meant to be seeing an independent doctor at some point to examine my injuries (bit late I think as they are healing now! lol). Katie is meant to be getting a car tomorrow as well, the injury people are sorting it out as this hire company will claim the money back off the other peoples insurance. I was told that when they got the details of the accident they would see if it was likely that we would win the case and if it was then they would let us hire a car. No matter what happens though we don't have to pay. I know nothing comes for free but basically they claim their money from the insurance people no matter what.

It's good that things are finally moving and is always reassuring to have someone turn round and hint that we were more likely to win this then not. It's not like we don't think we should win this but it is always a bit worrying and you never quite know what the insurance people will do. Also not knowing if we have a good independent witness is unnerving. Now the injury claim is moving hopefully we will hear back from the insureance and get told how much they are willing to give us for the car. No doubt it won't be that much but hopefully it will be enough to get a nice safe car. We have been looking at Mondeo's, they might be big but they have great space in them and the insurance would only be about £500 fully comp and that's if we say that the accident was never resolved and our current insurance had to pay everything. Not bad I don't think!

Anyway I'm off now, so until next time take care and watch out for random lorries!

Day 10

I've been bad, I haven't updated this in a while so I will try and update it all now. I won't bother too much with the last few days but will get this blog back up to speed.

I have a job, I started it on Monday. It's helping out at an MOT centre, basically I just clean up and help out a bit with the MOT's (sitting in the cars and doing the steering and breaking. I also get to help out doing the smoke test on vans which is good fun, means I get to get a bit dirty. The other part of my job is moving vehicles and also dropping people off if they are not going to wait at all. It's not that taxing but it's fun really and hey I got some work done on my car for free! So far I've driven loads of different campers (including a VW) and the best car I've driven so far...a Mercedes SLK200! Nice .

My hand has recovered quite well and is beginning to heal, around the wrist is still very scabbed up but my thumb has basically healed now. Unfrtunetely my back and neck are still painful along with my chest. Still they are getting better as they don't hurt as much as they did. Not much has happened really as I've been working all week so all I have been doing is working getting back and relaxing a bit before heading to bed. lol. I saw a twat on the road today as well, a lorry drove up to some red lights which had just turned red and, guess what...drove straight through making a right turn. I was behind him and was left thinking that he was lucky that no one had started to move off from the other turnings! I caught up with him a couple of minutes later at another set of lights and felt like getting out and having a go at him. lol

I have some more good news actually and that is that Mitchells and Butlers have accepted me onto their graduate programme so I can now apply for their assistant manager positions. I don't quite know what I'll do if where I am at the moment turn round and say that they will train me up as a mechanic as I quite enjoy it all really and although it doesn't make much money it's an interesting job. Also I would be able to then set up my own workshop and make more like that. I think that would be great to do but I will have to see how everything pans out really.

I have one other piece of news and that is that yesterday we went and got ourselves a pet. It is a white lop eared rabbit with blue eyes and has been named Tiggi by Keziah as, and I quote, he bounces like Tigger! hehe. I will stick a picture up of him after I have written this blog so you can see what he is like.

I think that's about it actually now so I will end this blog now and hopefully I will update it again tomorrow but it will probably be a few days time before I do.

Take Care!

Day 3

Hello again

I was meant to add this entry yesterday but then I didnt as I had lots of other things to do. When I woke up today I felt better then I had done on day 2...that was until I tried to sit up as normal and couldn't do it without getting a load of pain! I had to use the roll onto my side technique to get up. Having said that I got a load of pain when I went to sit up it was surprising as I did not get it so much walking around today. I think that it has something to do with the painkillers though!  hehe. My main thing today was the fact that my chest absolutely hurt like crazy today, even with taking the pain killers it still really hurt. Was the same throughout the day although it did ease off a bit towards the end of the day.

I went to the doctors today with Katie, I think he enjoyed checking her over more then me  lol. He must have spent about 10 mins + on checking her injuries over and when it came to me he had a quick check of my neck which he said was really creaky on the left hand side and then felt my back bone (doesn't actually hurt over the bone is at the side that it hurts!) and that was it for me, although he has given me a cream to put on my hand which is beginning to look a bit manky now, all the skin is cracking over the burn . Maybe I should stick a picture of it on here! hehe.  Needless to say I can't really play my guitar at the moment although I did give it a shot but it made my left hand all stiff. Think I am lucky really that it wasn't my right hand!

I have some good news as well though today as I now have a job helping out at this MOT place. Will be helping out with the MOT's cleaning cars and the MOT area so is just really a helper really but pays well so I can't argue! Will be starting that on Monday I think I should be feeling a lot better by then.

Went to see Chris today, he still seems on high spirits from his tablets but then he always has been quite excentric (is that how you spell that...I dunno)lol! They didn't give him a full cast which he is disappointed about but on the plus side they are going to have another look at it in two weeks time so hopefully it will be good enough to have no cast on it at all.

Well that was my day really, wasn't that exciting I'm afraid but things are slowly on the mend!

Take it easy and watch out for those lorries!

Day 1 and 2

Ok so I've told you about the crash and now I'll quickly cover the first two days after it.

The first day has probably been the best day so far, the most unerving part was telling my mum and dad about it...actually it was more telling my mum about it for some reason I did not feel nervous telling my dad. I went through the whole thing with them both and I think they were ok with it all especially as I sounded ok. My girlfriend had gone to work for a half day so I was left feeling sorry for myself untill she got back at 12. After that we were able to start sorting things out. Fristly I had to take documents to the police station just to prove that I was insured on the car and had a valid licence, and also that it had a current MOT. After that we went to see the car, you can see the pictures we took of it in my pictures for this blog. The car was a real state, I had not realised how bad it would be but I guess that's what happens when a lorry turns into you when you are going 40mph+! We collected all of our things from the car and signed a document saying that we had. It was sad to see the car in the state that it was but then at least none of us were too badly injured. I was told by someone that to put it in perspective that if you took a car and dropped it from the top of a house then it would impact the ground at 30mph. It really did put it in perspective that, the question is what is a 40mph crash like?

My neck was beginning to hurt by the end of the day, if I tried to turn it left I could hardly turn it without it hurting me so I booked in at the doctors. My girlfriend is the same, she was saying her neck has been getting stiffer and stiffer, her mum reckons it could be whiplash but we will have to wait to see what the doctor says about it all. We have been renamed crash test dummies by my girlfriends sister, is funny really especially with what it was like when we had the crash.

By the end of the day my back was playing up again and my neck was really stiff, all I wanted to do was climb into bed and get some sleep the problem was that even in bed it was hurting. I was told by the doctor at the hospital we were checked out at that I would probably get worse before I got better.

Day 2

I had a reall bad nights sleep last night, I woke up a couple of times and was really thirsty when I went to sit up I could hardly do it because of the pain in my back and side. When the alarm went off in the morning I really couldn't get up. I tried sitting up but the pain was too much, in the end I found that if I rolled onto my side and then got up from there I could get up with less pain.

After my girlfriend had gone to work I did a puzzle and then played my guitar. Made up a couple of songs which was fun but then my arm started hurting all the way from my neck. I had to stop after a while and just lie there letting my arm recover. After this I went downstairs and logged onto the net. It was about this time that I decided that maybe I should start a blog so I started this.

My neck seems to be a bit better now but where I got the gas burn on my hand from the airbag going off that seems to have got worse. Before it was just red but now it had started to leak a bit an it is going all crusty. I'll have to take another photo of it so that I can show how the injury progressed. It really does look right mank...maybe I'll stick a photo up with it on!

I'm hoping that my back will improve soon as it really does hurt like crazy, still I guess that's what happens when you're in an accident!

Will write some more on my progress tomorrow, I'm hoping that by the end of the week I should be loads better if not fully recovered but then it could take longer for all I know. I know the doctor said that muscle injuries can take months to heal properly, I don't know if I like the sound of that though!

Take it easy!
